The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay has requested Chief Minister Harish Rawat that the eve of State foundation day be celebrated as non-resident Uttarakhandi day. In a letter written to the Chief Minister, the PCC chief has pointed at the important role played by people of Uttarakhandi origin living outside the State in the Statehood movement.
Requesting that November 8, 2015 be celebrated as non-resident Uttarakhandi, Upadhyaya noted that people of Uttarakhandi origin living outside the State had supported the Statehood movement in all manners possible. They had prominent raised the demand for granting Statehood to Uttarakhand in the states that they were living in during the Statehood movement. The non-resident Uttarakhandis also have an important role in the State’s economy. Their contribution in creation of Uttarakhand cannot be ignored.
The PCC chief wrote to the CM, “On September 9 this year the State will complete 15 years of its formation, progressing from the stage of infancy to youth under your leadership. Considering the contribution of non-resident Uttarakhandis in State formation, organising a non-resident Uttarakhandi day in Dehradun and inviting them to it will also be an honour for us. Holding the non-resident Uttarakhandi day on September 8, on the eve of State foundation day will be a gesture of respect for all Statehood activists,” he added.
