The analysis of class XII examination result of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) reveal that performance of private schools is much lower than Government schools like Kendriya Vidhyalayas (KV).

The overall pass percentage of private schools of Dehradun region in Class XII examination was a depressing 72.55 per cent. As compared to them the students of Kendriya Vidhyalaya Sangathan (KVS) showed a much better performance with a pass percentage of 95.8 per cent.

The students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalayas (Government owned school) performed even better with a pass percentage of 96.33. The Government aided schools also performed exceptionally well as they clocked a pass percentage of 96.30 while with a pass percentage of 85 the students of Tibetan schools (Government owned) also chipped in with 85 percent passing ratio.

When asked by The Pioneer to comment on better performance of KV students, the deputy director of KVS, Sardar Singh Chauhan said that the classroom teaching at KVS is different from other schools and the teachers are more qualified as they are selected through a tough all India examination.

Chauhan said that the KVS regularly organise training sessions for its teachers where they are updated on the latest trends and most advanced teaching aids. He informed that the KVS adopt the practice of sharing the expertise of outstanding teachers. Chauhan informed that KVS provides special teaching material free of cost to the students of Classes X and XII, in this material a complete blue print of examination is given to the students.

He also claimed that a practice of remedial teaching is also adopted in the Kendriya Vidhyalayas. “Under remedial teaching special classes are held in the schools on the demand of the students, these classes are organised after the normal school hours by the specialist teachers,” he informed.

The Principal of Grace Academy – a prominent private school of the city- Benjamin Newton told The Pioneer that many private schools due to resource crunch are forced to admit less than mediocre students in class XII due to which their result get affected. He said that schools like KV have the luxury of picking only select students which many small private schools do not have due to which their performance looks good.
