To help students suffering from stress related to the examinations, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has opened a helpline. This helpline would start functioning from Wednesday.
The class X and XII Board examination of CBSE would start in the month of February and it is a common observation that the students tend to get tensed as the examination draws near.
Many a times this worry gets converted into stress which becomes detrimental for the physical and mental health.
The CBSE starts the tele-counseling sessions for the students before the examinations where counselor talks to the students to help them out.
The CBSE has made the associate professor of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Dr Sona Kaushal Gupta as counselor for Dehradun region. She can be contacted on CBSE helpline 1800118004. The students can also log on to website www.cbse.nic.in .
Dr Gupta said that students show symptoms like headache, loss of appetite, general weakness and insomnia when they feel stressed by the examination.
She said that the students should learn to face the examination properly and should not get scared from them.
“The grading pattern adopted by the CBSE in class X examination has failed to reduce stress of performing well in the examination as the students are under pressure to get good grades now. Nothing has changed only grades have taken the place of marks. It is good that the CBSE hold tele counseling sessions for the students before the examination,’’ said Sarita Sharma a mother of a class XII student.
The Tele counseling is an outreach programme of CBSE introduced 20 years ago. The first phase of counseling is held before the examination and second phase after it. The examination body deploys experts which include principals, trained counselors and psychologists to guide students during this period.
