An IPS officer, who was sent from Uttar Pradesh to Uttarakhand when the State was carved out in 2000, is absent from her duty for more than a decade. The officer, according to sources, left the country after serving in the state for a few months.

Sources in the police headquarters said that Jyoti Belur, an IPS officer of 1993 batch from UP cadre, was sent to Uttarakhand in 2000. Her cadre was changed to Uttarakhand from UP. She served in the State for some months after which she reportedly left for UK. From there, she sent her resignation, which was not accepted for some reasons.

A source said that recently, the CBI court issued fresh summons in connection with a case involving police encounter in Ghaziabad in 1996, to Belur. Then the officer was posted there as the circle officer in the district. Before leaving the country, as she was posted in Uttarakhand and there was no idea about her present in the State, the summons to her was sent at the address of Uttarakhand headquarters.

When contacted, Uttarakhand Director General of Police Satyavrat said, “IPS Jyoti Belur went to England on study leave. From there, she sent her resignation that has yet not been accepted since an amount of about Rs 1.10 lakh is outstanding with her.” He added that the summons by the CBI to Belur was sent at the address of police headquarters as she was posted in the State and there is no idea about her present address.
