Hundreds of people of a village under Pathri thana are perturbed as they are receiving notices from CBI in connection with the Pherupur rape case involving a minor that occurred in 2014. The teenagers, adults and even the elderly are not being spared from interrogation. On Wednesday also, the villagers were seen waiting for the CBI team at police chowki, leaving their daily chores.
Once again, DNA and other blood tests of thousands of suspects of Pherupur rape case are being done by the CBI to draw conclusions in the rape case. CBI is still struggling with the case with two years having passed since it occurred. An investigation team is continuously camping in Haridwar for collecting evidence.
The naked body of 13- year old girl was found in a sugarcane field in Pherupur village of Haridwar district who had been murdered after being raped. She had gone to ease herself in the fields but did not return. The case had shocked the entire state and massive protests were staged, demanding arrest of the culprits.
At the initial stages, Haridwar police was given the task of probing the case, but they failed to solve the case. Forced by police remaining ineffective in cracking the case, the state government had transferred it to the CBI. CBI had registered the case and started investigation from January 2015. Since then CBI has been investigating the matter. Hundreds were questioned since then, but the case remained elusive. Blood samples of more than six hundred suspects from the Pherupur village and other parts were taken by the investigation team for DNA testing. People across ages who were present at the village and nearby places and whose mobile location was found in the area are being interrogated.
Investigation team had taken the blood samples of the victim’s father and all the relatives, close and distant. Now CBI has started fresh probe and is taking blood samples once again to match the DNA of the accused. According to the sources, some new suspects came to light after mobile surveillance. They are also part of the investigation.
