CBI begins probe in minor rape and murder case

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Delhi on Friday inspected the site in Pherupar village where a minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered in January 2014 and collected some information from the family members of the victim. Spending about three hours engaged in the investigation, the team later went back to Delhi. Sources said that the team has got some crucial information during this trip which might result in a breakthrough of the ghastly crime that sent shock waves across the State with the people erupting in anger.

Notably, on January 7, 2014, body of the minor girl had been recovered from the sugarcane fields in Pherupur village under the jurisdiction of Pathri. The post-mortem report had confirmed that the girl was raped before she was smothered to death. Police facing flak from the angry villagers because of their failure to crack the crime, the State Government had recommended a CBI probe following which the country’s premier investigation agency had started investigation. Taking up the probe, CBI had conducted DNA tests of nearly 600 persons.

CBI team has inspected the site of the crime several times, the latest being on Thursday when   CBI DIG  Sharhad Agarwal accompanied by ASP Asrey, Inspector Prashant and a woman cop inspected the Pherupur area. However, the investigation had been assigned to a female official after the agency had failed to identify those responsible for the heinous crime.

It is learnt that the team is linking this case to another murder which occurred a few months after the rape/murder case involving the minor was held. The accused of the second murder is now in judicial custody. Sources said that CBI is closing the case. A police officer said that the accused who is now in judicial custody murdered his friend at the same site where the minor had been raped and murdered. “There are reasons to suspect that he murdered his friend as the latter had some information of the rape/murder case involving the minor,” he said.

SSP Krishna Kumar VK Sia, "It is learnt that the CBI team has reached close to cracking the rape/murder case. Things are now being verified."
