With an aim to set up economic offense wing (EOW) in the State, CB-CID, DIG has been directed to study the economic offense wing of other States like Delhi, Himachal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and other States and submit a detailed report over it to the State Government.
The report would help in making EOW more effective and operational. Direction has been issued to DIG, CB-CID in a meeting held at Secretariat and senior State administrative officers and senior police officers discussed over this issue in details, said senior cops. Additional DGP (administration) Ram Singh Meena said that currently there are several wings of police department which are dealing with economic offenses in the state. In the meeting, discussion was held to make EOW operational and more effective.
Another senior police officer said that apart from SIT at range level, CB-CID is also dealing with the case related to economic offenses. At police station level, cases are being dealt with cases related to economic offenses. However, amount of economic offenses that will be dealt with at which level of wings have not been decided so far. After studying economic offenses wing of neighbouring states, things would be cleared and economic offense wing at state level would be more effective and operative.
It should be mentioned here that Chief Minister Harish Rawat stressed on dealing stringently with economic offences after his re-installation. After CM’s direction, State police had formed Economic Offence Wing to deal with the high profile economic offenses at the level of the State police headquarters but its actual operatives was not framed.
DGP MA Ganapathy had earlier said that in view of spiraling economic offences, especially those related to fraudulent sale of lands and taking money from banks on forged documents in the State, the economic offense wing has been constituted to curb the trends.
State IG Deepam Seth was appointed the in-charge of the newly formed Economic Offence Wing. It was said that this wing would investigate cases related to economic offences. This apart, the wing would monitor the investigations of cases related to land forgeries reported at Special Investigation Team (SIT), Garhwal and Kumaon ranges, said DGP MA Ganapathy earlier.
He further said that police personnel working with the wing would identify the economic offenders apart from collecting information related to the persons allegedly involved in land related offences. This wing would also prepare a detailed compilation of documents highlighting persons involved in economic offences in the State.
