Complaints related to illegal net banking transactions lodged with Uttarakhand Cyber Crime Police Station are on the spiral for the past few years. Two to three such complaints are being received in a week. However, on the brighter side of the bleak scenario, Cyber Crime Police Station officers have managed to recover Rs 3.27 lakh from the fraudsters over the past two months as the same amount was not en-cashed by the swindlers.
CCPS sub-inspector Marut Sah on Wednesday said that as many as 49 complaints related to illegal net banking transactions had been reported in two months between January 1 and February 29 at CCPS. Team comprising sub-inspectors-Marut Sah, Rajiv Semwal and Vinod Chaurasiya- acted swiftly on the received complaints and managed to deposit Rs 3, 27, 327 (Rs 3.27 lakh) in the bank account of the complainants, he claimed. The fraudsters had withdrawn the same through online shopping/money transfer/ recharge. “However, the amount thus spirited away was not spent by the fraudsters as the police officers had acted in time,” he added.
Sah further said that investigation report of such cases revealed that fraudsters spend money on online shopping. However, it takes time to deliver the money to the shops concerned. If money is spent through online shopping it is held for some time. The possibility of getting money back is optimum if the complainants provide such information immediately after the crime takes place, he said, adding that the possibility of getting money back is less if such reports are provided to the police stations late. The complainant should inform the police station soon after they come to learn that money is siphoned off by unidentified persons through illegal net banking transactions, he stated.
Notably, CCPS had received many such complaints between November 18 and December 8, 2015 and succeeded in cracking some of them. The sum siphoned off by such fraudulent persons amount to Rs 1, 00, 725.
