A team of Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) visited the female hospital of the Government Doon Medical College on Tuesday. The team suggested some improvement in the process of adoption and ‘Jeevan Jyoti Palna’ scheme. As part of the scheme a cradle (palna) is set up in the hospital for those who abandon their newborn babies for various reasons.
Principal of the GDMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta said that the team has suggested that an electronic cradle with an alarm system should be installed in the hospital.
In this type of cradle an alarm is sounded five minutes after a child is left in it, giving time to the mother or child abandoners’ sufficient time to move away from that place. CARA offered financial help for purchase of a banner informing rules and regulations of adoption.
The babies left in the cradle are handed over the Child protection homes of the social welfare department. The health department takes care of medical and other needs of these children. He further said that regular visit will be done in near future.
The team saw the process of the child adoption of the babies left in the cradle on the day. The team consisted of the Chairman of CARA, M Ramchandra and member Sushma Kharakwal. The medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Meenakshi Joshi was also present on the occasion.
