Four people, including a 10-year old girl, lost their lives when the car they were travelling in plunged into a gorge in remote Berinag area of Pithoragarh district on Sunday. The condition of another girl who was seriously injured in the accident is also reported to be critical.
The Superintendent of Police (SP), Pithoragarh, Rl Sharma told The Pioneer that Haldwani resident, Rakesh Kumar was returning with his family after visiting Kotgarhi temple on Sunday. At around 10.15 am the car in which the family was travelling apparently lost control and plunged into a gorge near Berinag.
The SP said that the police rushed to the spot immediately on hearing about the accident. The accident was so fatal that three members of the family including Rakesh, who was driving the car died on the spot.
The police and local people had a harrowing time extracting the bodies from the fateful vehicle. A ten year old girl, who was injured critically in the accident, succumbed while being taken to the hospital while one girl was taken to Haldwani government hospital where her condition is reported to be very critical.
