'Capable Cong workers to get their due'

With dissatisfaction on the rise in the party cadre against its coalition partner, Progressive Democratic Front, the Congress in Uttarakhand is looking to adjust party leaders in organisational capacities in the Pradesh Congress Committee and its district units. Addressing the media here on Thursday, All India Congress Committee secretary and State co-in charge Sanjay Kapoor said after touring parts of the State with Uttarakhand PCC president Kishore Upadhyaya that dedicated party workers would be accorded suitable positions to strengthen the organisational structure of the party in Uttarakhand.

"While touring parts of Uttarkashi and Tehri districts with the PCC chief, I found that the party workers are enthusiastic and that the public wants to connect with the Congress and listen to its leaders, which is a good sign for the party. Our victories in the Panchayat polls and Vidhan Sabha bypolls have boosted the morale of the party cadre but now we need to prepare for the 2017 Assembly elections. The Congress will ensure that dedicated hardworking party workers, especially those living in remote mountainous regions and unable to frequently visit Dehradun, are accorded positions in the party. The party will work to further strengthen its organisational structure in the State and not neglect any section of society," he said, while also expressing the hope that the State Government will also accord due respect to capable party workers.

Responding to a question about former CM Vijay Bahuguna commending the stance taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations and response of the Government of India to ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Kapoor said that he was unaware of the said statements while toeing the party line of criticising the stance taken by the Central Government on the ceasefire violations. Kapoor said that the people of India were already regretting electing the BJP led NDA Government to the Centre. "We acknowledge that the Congress lost the lok Sabha polls due to some drawbacks but the people too are repenting having voted for Modi. With prices of various essential commodities rising, the PM has failed to deliver on the promises he had made prior to the elections," said Kapoor.
