Occurrence of snowfall even in foothills of Uttarakhand, apart from the upper Himalayan region, has brought an 'exciting' year-end experience, particularly for long-distant travellers who have been camping here in different hilly zones of the hill State for many days to witness the snowfall, amid icy winds accompanied by occasional rain showers, disappearance of electricity since late Monday night or so badly hit normal life in different parts of the Himalayan State on Tuesday.

After a huge gap in fact since rainy season, it was the first time when many parts of the of the hill State, including the terai region, experienced rain showers since Monday. Though temperature had gone down gradually during the past few days due to cloudy conditions coupled with occasional foggy conditions, it started raining here in different parts of the region, including Haldwani, Bhimtal, Kaladhungi, Ramnagar, Kathgodam, Ranibagh, to name a few places since late Monday night.

As weather experts have maintained, rain showers occurred in different parts of the region due to western disturbances. At the same time, citizens have been advised to take necessary precautions as the atmospheric temperature may dip further ahead. However, with sudden change in atmospheric conditions leading to occurrence of snowfall and raining in lake city Nainital and other parts of the region,  electricity supply also went off here.

People had to face a tough time during morning hours as there was no light since late Monday night. Sharp decline in atmospheric temperature only added to the woes of the people. And on account of chilling cold, many parents preferred not to send their kids to schools. More so, most of the citizens also kept their movements restricted due to cold on Tuesday.

However, people particularly the farmers have welcomed the rain showers. They are of the view that occurrence of rainfall this time is very timely for crops.
