BVS treatment for heart ailments now in Haldwani

Published on:

People suffering from diseases like coronary artery disease may get treatment with modern bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) method, a dissolvable stent, even in Kumaon region with doctors of the Central Hospital Haldwani claiming to have successfully treated two patients recently with this method.

The BVS technique is an advanced method in coronary artery disease therapy in which  a non-metallic mesh tube is delivered into an angioplasty balloon to treat a narrowed artery. But it slowly gets dissolved once the blocked artery starts functioning naturally again, said cardiologist Dr Promod Joshi of the Central Hospital.

This method is presently available in cities like Delhi and Mumbai along with a few  other metro cities. However, the same is available for the first time in Haldwani. More so, patients can avail this treatment here for about Rs2.5 lakh whereas in Delhi, people shell out  will over Rs3.5 lakh, added Joshi.

The BVS has been successfully implanted in over 12,000 patients across India. It is now available in Haldwani's  Central Hospital also, said Dr Sanjay Juyal, director, Central Hospital.

The coronary artery disease develops when the arteries that supply blood to the heart become narrowed or blocked by a buildup of fatty deposits called plaque. As a result, it gets harder for the arteries to supply blood to the heart. It is our constant endeavour and commitment towards providing latest treatment to the people. With use of this BVS technology, we have taken another step in this direction, added Juyal.
