Bus federation threatens strike against restriction

Strongly resenting the traffic plan which prevents the operation of city buses on the busy roads of the city during 1 pm to 3 pm, the Dehradun City bus service federation has threatened to go on an indefinite strike if the plan is not shelved soon.

The President of federation Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal told The Pioneer that the administration should prevent the Vikrams which are illegally plying on the roads of the city and causing traffic congestions.  He said that there are 265 city buses in the state capital which serve about 1 lakh people daily.

A delegation of the federation met the Inspector General (IG) Garhwal range Sanjay Gunjyal on Wednesday. The federation alleged that the Vikrams and Tata Magics are openly flouting the orders of Uttarakhand High court and picking retail customers on the routes of the city.

The HC on May 27, 2014 had prevented the contract carriage vehicles from picking individual customers. The delegation blamed these vehicles for creating traffic chaos in the city.

The President of the federation reminded Gunjyal of the plan of former SP G S Martoliya in which he advocated that Vikrams should not be allowed to ply within 2 KM radius of the city.

He suggested that Martoliya plan should be implemented which allows Vikrams till Bindal Bridge on Premnagar route similarly  Mohabbewala — ISBT route Vikrams were to be stopped at Matawala Bagh. The plan suggested that Vikrams on Raipur route should be stopped at Sahastradhara crossing and Vikrams of Rajpur road - Garhi Cant route be allowed till Secretariat chowk only. Similarly Vikrams on Seema Dwar route could be stopped at Saharanpur Chowk and those plying from Rispana Bridge should not be allowed to move beyond Araghar Chowk.
