The strike of the city bus operators continued for second consecutive day on Wednesday. The city bus operators under the banner of the Dehradun City Buses association are camping at the office of Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Dehradun. Many city buses operating in the city remained off the road on Wednesday also. The agitating city bus operators got a shot in arm on Wednesday when some other transport association threw their weight in the agitation. The President of the city bus association Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal said that the private bus operators plying on Vikasnagar Dakptahr , Kasli route , the Majra Dharmawala union and Parvatiya Sanyukt Motor Union have come out in support of the strike. The members of these associations gave a memorandum to the ARTO administration. These associations have threatened to go on a complete strike if their demands are not accepted.
The city bus operators are agitated over illegal operation of the works. The members of the association said that administration and transport department should respect the order of Uttarakhand High Court and stop illegal movement of Vikrams in the city especially around clock tower area.
The association is of the view that contract carriage vehicles like Vikrams are illegally plying though the Uttarakhand High Court in an order dated May 27, 2014 had clearly stated that the contract carriage vehicles like Vikrams should be stopped from picking retail customers on selected routes. The association alleges that the financial condition of the bus operators has taken a plunge and many of them are not in a position to repay loans and meet the requirement of their family.
