The demand of the bullion traders will be raised strongly in the parliament, said Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay. He was speaking at a protest demonstration staged by the bullion traders in Dhamawala Bazaar where the protest was intensified into a hunger strike unto death on Wednesday. The PCC chief further claimed that the bullion traders will be receiving full support from the Congress party. He said, “This issue will be raised by the party vice president Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier, the Congress vice president had raised the issue regarding the proposal for taxing employee provident fund in the parliament as a result of which the Central Government had to roll back on the issue,” averred Upadhyay. The Congress Dehradun Mahanagar chief Prithviraj Chauhan alleged that the BJP was claiming to be a well-wisher of the traders while at the same time exploiting them. “The traders have been keeping their shops closed and protesting for some days now but all the five BJP members of parliament from Uttarakhand have remained silent on the issue,” said Chauhan. The PCC vice president Jot Singh Bisht was also among the Congress leaders present on the occasion.
