Budget Session will be convened in Dehradun

The Budget Session of the Assembly would be convened in Dehradun and not in Gairsain in Chamoli district, the Trivendra Singh Rawat Government has announced on Friday, ending speculations swirling over the place where the important session would be held.

The session would start on June 8 and would continue till June 20. The Government said that the decision to hold the session in Dehradun has been taken in view of the ongoing pilgrimage to the four shrines — Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath aside from Hemkund Sahib. The full-fledged Budget would be tabled in the Assembly during the session that would give the much-awaited direction to the State.

Earlier, the State Government toyed with the idea of convening the session in  Gairsain. But the Government decided against it as the session being held in the hill town of Chamoli district might adversely impact the pilgrimage. It is said that the pilgrims going to Badrinath would suffer as the State Government machinery would have to be deployed at Gairsain in case the session is held there.

As per the information received from the State Government, the Finance Minister Prakash Pant would present his maiden Budget in Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha on the first day of the Session on May 8.

Discussion on the Budget would start  on June 9. June 10 and 11 being holidays, the discussion on the Budget would resume on June 12. The department-wise Budgets would be tabled on June 14 and 15. June 16 has been kept for other legislative works. June 17 and 18 being holidays, the remaining legislative works would be completed on June 19 and 20. It is also learnt that the minor details would be finalised by the Vidhan Sabha Business Advisory Committee during a meeting slated  on June 7.
