Dehradun police have arrested Pradeep Kumar, resident of Sahaspur, on Monday on the charge of strangling his brother, Baljeet to death on April 26. During interrogation, Pradeep said that Baljeet while drunk used to abuse him and their neighbours daily. Interestingly, the same Pradeep had registered a complaint with the police about the death of his brother.
Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date said that Sahaspur police had recovered the body after being informed by the gram pradhan of Dobhari on April 27 of a body lying near a tree in the forest area at Dobhari.
Sahaspur police station in-charge ASP Manjunath TC along with police forces rushed the spot and recovered the body. The body was sent for postmortem. Dog squad and field units were also pressed into service and they collected relevant evidences related to the case.
Baljeet’s brother Pradeep had registered a complaint regarding death of Baljeet and a case under section 302 of IPC was registered against unidentified persons in Sahaspur Police Station.
Investigation revealed that Pradeep and Baljeet used to quarrel occasionally. Police arrested Pradeep after they had collected relevant evidences against him. In course of interrogation, he admitted his offence and said that he had murdered his brother on an impulse of anger as he used to abuse him and their neighbours in his intoxicated state daily.
It is learnt from police that on April 26, Baljeet had reached home from a marriage party, drunk. Baljeet had quarreled with Pradeep and then fled to the nearby forest area. Pradeep chased him. According to Pradeep, Baljeet had started beating him. This had incurred his wrath and he also had beaten Baljeet who had fallen unconscious. Then Pradeep unfastened the belt his brother had and strangled him with that to give the people the impression that he had committed suicide.
