In another incident of broad daylight robbery in the highly vulnerable Kankhal area of Haridwar city, the robbers looted the house of a section officer deputed in Dehradun Secretariat on Monday morning and decamped with ornaments worth `40 lakhs and cash.
The robbery took place when only the children were left in the house. On receiving information, Kankhal police rushed to the site. The probe is on though the culprits are yet to be arrested, said police.
The people residing in Kankhal are scared, given the fact that dacoities are happening there at regular intervals. “We are really scared with police having ceased to evoke fear in the robbers,” said an elderly citizen.
It is learnt from police that three robbers barged into the house of the officer Digvijay Singh Bisht around 11 am. Brandishing gun, they broke open the cupboard, took out ornaments and cash and fled. Police said that the children are too much in a trauma to make any statement.
SP City Manikant Mishra said, “The robbed family is yet to give a statement to the police. The children who were the eye witnesses are naturally scared. However, the probe is on and we would be able to nab the culprits soon.”
