The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is using latest technology in construction of roads in the State to minimise environmental damage. Special focus is also being laid on tree plantation and environmental conservation. The debris and other material generated during road construction is being reused. Top priority is being accorded to environmental standards in the construction of roads by the BRO.
This was stated during a detailed discussion between the organisation’s director general, lieutenant general Harpal Singh and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat here on Monday.
With approval being granted to enhancing connectivity up to the border with China in Uttarakhand at a cost of Rs 18,000 crore under the Bharatmala project, work is also being undertaken in this direction.
This project includes work on Baijnath-Tharali-Karnprayag road, Askot-Dharchula-Malpa-Lipulekh road, Baijnath-Bagehswar-Kapkot-Munsyari-Seraghat-Jauljivi road, Mana-Musa Pani-Mana pass and Joshimath-Malari road.
The BRO has thanked the Government and administration for swift approval and proactive approach regarding forest clearance, land acquisition and related aspects for construction of roads in the State.
While meeting the Chief Minister, the BRO director general discussed various issues related to construction of border roads in the State. The CM assured that the request for 20 acre land on Haridwar Road for BRO project headquarter will be considered seriously.
Further, Rawat directed officials concerned to ensure swift redressal of land acquisition, forest clearance and other cases related to the BRO.
He said that road connectivity to border regions and villages is also important from the strategic point of view. From the villagers living in border areas, the army also receives information which is strategically important and related to national security.
The State Government will provide all possible cooperation to the BRO, added the Chief Minister.
The additional chief secretary Om Prakash and senior officers of the BRO were also present on the occasion.
