The members of the All Uttarakhand Parents’ Association (AUPA) has said the State Government should not come under pressure of powerful lobbying by the private schools and bring in the Private Schools Regulatory Authority act to bring relief for lakhs of parents.
A meeting of the executive body of the association was organised on Tuesday. In the meeting, the members strongly condemned the action of private school operators to form a pressure group and attempts to prevent the government from bringing in the proposed regulatory authority. The President of the AUPA, Neeraj Singhal said that the state government should not be bogged down by the pressure exerted by these schools.
The new BJP government has time and again expressed its desire to rein in the private schools. Taking cognizance of the complaints of the private schools, the education minister Arvind Shukla had recently ordered a ban on charging of readmission fees and caution money from the parents of the students. The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had also sought the draft of proposed regulatory authority act which was prepared last year but under pressure from the private schools, the then Congress government could not muster courage to table the bill in the assembly.
