Boost for farmers: No transit charge on agro forestry produce

Published on:

Transit charge has been removed on yarsa gumba, eucalyptus, poplar, silver oak, peach, pear, apple, bottle brush, Robinia, Paulownia, subabul, paper mulberry, jacaranda, guava, kadamb, reetha fruits, seeds and rind, pine needles and lantana under the Uttarakhand timber and other forest produce transit manual.

There will be no exit charge on transit of yarsa gumba as per the directions of the Forest Department or Van Panchayat. This decision has been taken to encourage farmers to plant agro forestry species like eucalyptus and other species. This was recently approved by the State Cabinet and notified on Friday. Following this notification, farmers will save about Rs 500 per truckload of the items exempted from transit charge. Though this step would cause loss to government revenue, the encouragement to agro forestry would help increase green tree cover and encourage environmental conservation, said the additional secretary, Forests and Environment, Manoj Chandran.
