Police recovered body of an elderly person from one of the rooms of an ashram owned by a Congress leader Brahmswaroop Brahmchari around midnight on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Baljeet aged around 60 from Sonepat, Haryana. Two persons, including a woman, who were staying in the same room, were absconding, said police, adding that the elderly person might have been murdered. A police officer probing the case said that the ashram authority had not cared to seek identification documents of the trio before they were given a room on rent. “This is   shocking, given the fact that we are relentlessly carrying out campaigns asking the ashrams not to give rooms on rent sans the identification proofs,” he added.  It is further learnt from police that they were on the lookout for clues. “After the autopsy report comes action would be taken if it is found to be a case of murder,” said CO City Prakash Chand Deoli.

It is learnt that Baljeet along with two others, including a woman, took a room in the ashram on 25 April. Deoli said that as the police team rushed to the site upon being informed by the ashramites the door of the room where the trio was staying was found open. “The other two are on the run,” he said, adding that action would be taken against the management of the ashram for not observing the rules of taking identification proofs of the boarders.  He said that the family members of the deceased when contacted failed to provide much information about Baljeet. “We are sure that  Baljeet was not maintaining contact with his family members,” he said.

Police sources later said that a PhD holder, the deceased was survived by two sons and a daughter. He had gone home the last time around four years ago when his daughter was being married, sources added.
