The block level committees constituted to monitor Mid Day Meal (MDM) in the Government schools of State have become almost redundant. These committees are not even holding the mandatory tri-monthly meetings. For better management of the MDM, the state government has constituted block level committee for implementation and monitoring of MDM being served in the schools.

The state education department recently undertook a review of the scheme and found that these committees are not holding tri- monthly meetings. Taking cognizance of the situation the), the Director General (DG) of school education Captain Alok Shekhar Tiwari has  written a letter  directed to all district magistrates and Chief Development Officers (CDO). In the letter CDO said that that by not holding these meetings, the objective of monitoring important things like cooking cost, lPG availability, payment of stipend to the Bhojanmatas (MDM cooks), availability of kitchen cum store and quality of food being served under the scheme is not being monitored properly. He said that the image of the state is affected if an important scheme like MDM is not being implemented in letter and spirit. The DG who is also chairman of the monitoring committee for MDM said that meeting scheduled after every three months should be held regularly with all the stakeholders so the task of effective monitoring of the scheme is achieved.
