BJYM members protest, demands National Food Security

Demanding implementation of National Food Security Scheme in the district, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members protested at district food and civil supply office and submitted a memorandum to the district food and supply officer on Thursday.

However Dehradun food and civil supply officer PS Pangti said that the state government has already issued guidelines for the districts to complete work (digitisation of new ration cards) related to NFSS by September so that scheme could be implemented by October this year.

In Dehradun district, around 85 per cent work related to digitisation of new ration cards has been completed and the remaining would be completed by the deadline fixed. The department will start making ration card for APl families in the district within a week, he added.

The protest led by BJYM member Sachin Gupta said that earlier Public Distribution System (PDS) ration card holders used to receive 10 kilograms rice and 10 kilograms wheat at cheap rates under Atal Khadyan Yojana (AKY). Now, the state government has stopped the scheme-AKY and NFSS remains unimplemented to the double woe of the  unprivileged. Under the prevailing situation, APl card holders are receiving rations neither under AKY nor  under NFSS for the last three years.
