Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha gheraoed the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari at the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun on Wednesday demanding action against unauthorised constructions on the Rispana and Bindal rivers in the Dharampur Vidhan Sabha constituency. They complained that no action was being taken even in case of marked encroachments. The protesting BJYM members said that the flats made by MCD in ward number 44 Brahmapuri have not yet been allotted, demanding that the allotments be made soon.
They pointed out that in recent times encroachment on the Bindal had assumed alarming proportions but the MCD was focusing more on the encroachment at Bhramawala. The situation resulting from such encroachment is more alarming along the Bindal from the lalpul at Patelnagar to the Kabadi Bazaar on Haridwar bypass road. They further pointed out that the flats constructed by the corporation in Brahmapuri ward were to be allotted to the listed encroachers but this has not been done yet.
It is pertinent to mention here that the MCD had recently decided to remove the encroachments from its land at Bhramawala. The Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli pointed out that while chief minister Harish Rawat had exorted urban local bodies to take care of their land resources against encroachments at the All India Council of Mayors annual meet recently, the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Suryakant Dhasmana led the encroachers of Bhramawala in a protest against their eviction.
