BJP national secretary Trivendra Singh Rawat may contest the Doiwala bypolls after this assembly constituency will be vacated by ex-CM Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who was elected from Haridwar lok Sabha seat.
Although officially Rawat has denied this, sources have ascertained that he would be the BJP candidate. As per the constitution if an MlA takes oath as an MP then he will have to resign from the post of either MlA or MP within 14 days of swearing in.
It would be pertinent to mention here that Rawat had served the Doiwala assembly constituency in between 2002-2012 but he had contested assembly election-2012 from Raipur Assembly seat and lost with Congress candidate Umesh Sharma Kau. He had shifted to Raipur due to Delimitation-2008.
When The Pioneer visited Doiwala constituency then entire area was flooded with hoardings having giant picture of Rawat and claiming that BJP National Secretary Trivendra Singh Rawat worked hard under the able leadership of BJP general secretary Amit Shah, who started his work with a crack team and made impossible happen by leading BJP to the highest ever tally in UP.
Sources further said that as the seat is being represented by Dr Nishank so party will take his view before making final announcement for the candidate for Doiwala assembly by-poll. Sources further Dr Nishank is not interested to relinquish the seat due to state political scenario. As per the constitution if sitting MlA becomes MP then he will have to submit resignation either MlA or MP within 14 days of swearing-in. In this scenario picture will clear after swearing in. Talking to The Pioneer Trivendra Singh Rawat said that this is prerogative of the party so it would be very early to make any comment on it. He further said that if party asks then he would think on it.
