BJP workers stage protest at Doon's Nari Niketan

Demanding CBI inquiry into the alleged rape and abortion of a physically challenged inmate of the Nari Niketan and the death of two of its inmates at Doon Hospital, hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party workers led by former spokesperson Prakash Suman Dhyani took out a procession to the shelter home on Saturday. later they submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to the administrative officer.

The agitators had assembled at Mothrowala and rallied upto the Nari Niketan by shouting slogans against the State Government. Although police had made elaborate security arrangements.

One of the agitators alleged that the Social Welfare Minister is yet to take any steps to strengthen the security and provide other necessary facilities for inmates staying in the Nari Niketan. Around 100 inmates are being kept under the control of untrained staffs and without deputation of any doctor.

Dhyani slammed the State Government for its alleged disinterest regarding the plight of inmates, which has been hogging adverse limelight now with inmates either dying or falling ill at regular intervals.

In the last four years of Congress ruled government, 12 inmates were died. The back-to-back deaths of two inmates and falling ill of another 15 in a span of a few days have deepened the mystery surrounding Nari Niketan. He also alleged that government is trying to protect some high profile person in this case.

He further alleged that the State government’s decision to shift inmates in Haridwar under the coontrol of NGOs is wrong.  We have learnt that the NGO will be given Rs 80 lakhs per annum for the care of the inmates. We wonder whether the inmates would be secure when they are insecure in the government –run shelter homes.”

Dhyani warned that they will intensify their protest if the demand of CBI inquiry or judicial inquiry headed by acting high court judge is not met.

Another BJP senior leader said that this incident has been highly condemnable as it has dented into the image of the Deobhoomi. Besides, the two deaths of the inmates due to malnutrition have laid bare the sad fact that the State government had not cared in the least for their well-being.
