Members of the BJP women’s wing and residents of Thakurpur area staged a protest at the district Collectorate demanding that an allegedly unauthorised hostel causing civic problems in the area be shut down.
The members of the women’s wing arrived at the collectorate on Monday and protested against the hostel which they claim is illegal and discharging the waste and sewage on the road leading to the colony.
The agitated members said that due to sewage discharge a ditch is created in the road due to which the people of the locality are prone to many diseases. They said that their repeated appeals to the hostel owners on the issue have elicited no response. The BJP members said that environment of the area is being polluted by the illegal hostel and claimed that many anti social elements also roam in the colony due to it.
They demanded that the hostel should be immediately shut down as it poses both sanitation and security problems to the dwellers of the colony. The members later submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate in which they threatened to resume the protest if the district administration fails to act on the issue.
