BJP warns Statewide stir, CBI probe clamour grows shriller

The State BJP has threatened to launch a Statewide agitation on August 8 if the Congress-led State Government fails to approve a CBI enquiry into the sting operation that purportedly showed the former personal secretary to the Chief Minister settling some deals with private liquor players on behalf of the CM.  The party has remained vociferous on its demand for a probe by the premier Central Investigative Agency since the sting operation video was splashed on the electronic media across the country on July 22. However, the State Government has refused to fall in line, citing the murky authenticity of the video.

launching a scathing attack on the State Government, Prakash Pant, general secretary, State BJP, said here on Tuesday that they would not rest till they make the State Government clear decks for a CBI probe into the matter. "We would make them realise that the people are demanding the same through a statewide protest we would stage on August 8," he added.

He further said the people are enraged over the Harish Rawat Government stonewalling CBI probe " It is quite disappointing that the State Government is seeking to shield the corrupt unabashedly. They are hell bent on gagging the voice of the people who are vocal on corruption. Demolition of the residential complex of the journalist who was instrumental in exposing the sting operation can be cited as a instance of the State Government browbeating the honest into submission," alleged Pant.

True, aside from the BJP, many social activists are also demanding a CBI probe. They are critical of the Government doggedly refusing to come clean on the scams that are tumbling out of the Governmental cupboard at regular intervals.
