BJP to hold Chetna Yatra

In a bid to raise awareness among the people of Uttarakhand especially BJP workers, the State BJP is going to organise a Chetna Yatra in Dehradun on January 12. The yatra will begin from Vidhan Sabha roundabout and culminate at city BJP head office between 2 pm to 5 pm.

Talking to The Pioneer, city BJP president Umesh Aggrawal said that the party will be organising the Chetna Yatra (awareness march) to motivate the party workers and felicitate the newly appointed state BJP president Ajay Bhatt. More than 1000 two wheelers and hundreds of other vehicles carrying party flags will march from Vidhan Sabha to Parade Ground via Dharmpur, Pantan Bazaar and Rajpur Road.

“With this rally we will alert our party workers to be ready to face the upcoming challenge of assembly elections. They will be made aware of how the Congress-led Uttarakhand government with Harish Rawat as chief minister is patronising the mafia active in land, liquor and mining sectors. They have been challenging the government servants daring them to clamp down on their activities while the State Government is sitting idle in such a case. By adopting dillydallying attitude state government is sending message to the bureaucracy about the State Government patronising such mafia otherwise the police would have put them behind the bars by now,” said Aggarwal.

This would also be second phase of  the yatra led by the party’s State president Ajay Bhatt. As he had convened five-day long awareness march in Kumaon region, this would be the first such yatra in the Garhwal region.

Replying to a question asked regarding the traffic congestion to be caused by the planned rally, Aggarwal said that the party had decided to undertake the Chetna Yatra in the 2 PM to 5 PM time slot when the volume of vehicular traffic is comparatively leaner. The march would have concluded on the Parade Ground y the time officials start to leave for their homes at about 5 PM, he added.
