With the change of time, ways of reaching out to the younger lot during the elections is also changing. Political parties are taking a step forward in adopting social media as another device though which voters, even those living in the mountainous parts of Uttarakhand, can be approached and be impressed.
It is a long leap from the times when politicians relied mainly on posters, cardboard cutouts, fliers, graffiti and the tough house-to-house canvassing to win over voters. All of these are still in vogue but now, political parties are becoming more tech-savvy, realising that this is the only way to reach out to the articulate youth folk, who are living in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of the State.
With an aim to create awareness among the voters, especially the youth folk of the State, activists from the IT cell of Uttarakhand BJP have also pulled up their socks in order to woo the young generation to join with the party through social media sites. After stressing that social media sites could play a pivotal role in the upcoming parliamentary elections, the party leaders claimed to enroll around two lakh youths by the end of current month.
After conforming that IT (Information Technology) cell of the party has been continuously receiving overwhelming response from the youths across the State, Rajeev Talwar, State president, BJP IT cell, said that the activists have been urged to create awareness among the masses about the party’s ideology and claimed that more number of youths are coming forward to become the member through social media sites.
“We have always used technology very effectively, whether to give information to the activists or to make information available faster,” he reiterated, adding that BJP candidates will comfortably win all the five parliamentary constituencies.
In an exclusive interaction with The Pioneer, Harish Chamoli, co-convenor, IT cell, said that that around two lakh youths will become members through social media sites by the end of this month. “Around 30,000 youths and 50,000 each youth have joined the party through social media site in Pauri and Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Tehri districts respectively,” he claimed, adding that the cell is also sensitising masses on the importance of voting in the elections.
He told that the party is also accepting suggestions from the youth members on various issues like development, migration, unemployment etc. in order to push the state further on the path of development. “ The young and the educated youth remain online and we have realised that social media is a much more direct connect with the common people,” he said, adding that party is now aggressive on the social media and is vigorously promoting party’s ideology among electors across the State.
