BJP leader Munna Singh Chauhan has slammed the State government for handing Tyuni area in Chakrata region back to revenue police a few days after the administration had handed over the charge of the area to regular police by forming a new police station at the behest of the Governor during the President’s Rule.
While addressing the media persons, Chauhan said that in the interest of local residents of the area, Tyuni revenue area should be converted into regular police area and a police station should be set up there to crack crimes. “But the hurry with which the State government had restored the area to revenue police a few days after the government under the President’s Rule took the corrective step of handing the area over to the regular police is intriguing.
A police station was set up there too to the relief of the people who are suffering from a spate in crimes happening for the past many years. Do they think those who ruled the State during the Central rule were foolsIJ” the BJP leader asked.
Chauhan said that people of the Chakrata have been demanding civil police administration in place of revenue police for a long time. “A new police station was set up at the behest of the Governor. But soon after Harish Rawat came back to power, Governor’s decision was withdrawn. This is shocking,” he said.
Saying that Tyuni area falls under the constituency of home minister Pritam Singh, the BJP leader said that a police station had been approved way back in 1998 in response to the people’s demand. “later, the decision was withdrawn mysteriously,” he said.
He said that crimes being on the spiral in Tyuni area, setting up a regular police station was the need of the hour. “The body of Umrav Singh, brother of the home minister Pritam Singh, was found on the road a few years ago. Four months ago, an attempt was made to loot an ATM of PNB bank. A local youth -24- year- old Bachan Singh- was murdered and the body was thrown into river. Besides, the area has seen four murders and the people still wonder over the motive of these murders. A person was dragged after being tied to a vehicle. A forest officer was murdered by unidentified persons. It is clear that revenue police have proved to be incapable of checking peddling of illicit liquor, narcotics and timber and, above all, murders,” Chauhan said.
