After welcoming the High Court’s decision that local body elections should be done on the basis of 2001 census, BJP State chief Tirath Singh Rawat said that the party candidates will emerge victorious not only in local body elections but also in general elections, slated to take place in the next year.

He claimed that residents are repenting as why they had voted Congress to power in the State. After lamenting over the issue that the Congress-led State Government had sold several pieces of agriculture lands to land mafias and builders at much lower prices than its actual cost. According to Rawat, the BJP-led State Government had earlier suspended Uttarakhand Seeds and Tarai Development Corporation limited officials but the Congress-led State Government has re-appointed them after giving clean chit.

According to him, with the Uttarakhand Government announcing its decision to table Bhati Commission report in the State Assembly, BJP delegation including the leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Ajay Bhatt, has approached the Governor seeking his intervention to stop any action based on the probe panel’s report terming it as “unconstitutional”.

He also expressed his concern over the issue that Commission’s report is easily available in the market and further alleged that the Commission had not been constituted according to the norms.

Rawat said that the party will surely taste victory in local body elections and general elections as the residents want to see the development in the State.
