BJP councillors protested against the transfer of Harak Singh Rawat from the post of the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) of the MCD. They burnt a minister’s effigy for his alleged interference and support to the land mafia.
Protesting against political interference and alleged government apathy towards the MCD, the BJP councillors demonstration in the MCD compound on Tuesday morning.
They accused the State Government of making the MCD weak stating that on the one hand the State Government was not releasing the required budget on time and on the other hand frequent transfer of officials from the MCD was hampering effective execution of works.
They said that whenever the corporation tried to increase its revenue, speed up execution of development works or free its lands from encroachment, interference from the government or transfer of officials created impediments in carrying forward these works as desired.
They alleged that some people in power were involved in supporting members of the land mafia and were in the habit of pressurizing municipal officials to go lenient on unauthorised constructions and land encroachments. Harak Singh Rawat was also transferred out of the post of the MNA due to political pressure, they said, while demanding that he be reinstated to this post.
