BJP workers undertook a State-wide protest against deteriorating law and order, corruption and increasing presence of various mafia in Uttarakhand. Party leaders and workers demonstrated at various district headquarters against the State Government and submitted memorandum addressed to the Governor of Uttarakhand Dr KK Paul demanding steps for improving the situation.
In the State Capital Dehradun, the party city head Neelam Sehgal led a group of party office-bearers and members who demonstrated against the State Government at the Collectorate. Addressing the protesters, Sehgal said that the law and order situation in the State has almost collapsed. Crimes like murders, rapes, burglaries, molestation and dacoities are rising in Dehradun and other places across the State but the State Government has failed to take effective steps to tackle this rise in the crime graph.
“Criminals are moving freely without fear in Uttarakhand while the law abiding citizens are forced to live in fear with the police failing to clamp down on the criminals,” she said. In the memorandum addressed to the Governor KK Paul, the BJP members alleged that land and mining mafia are encroaching on government lands in addition to encroaching on rivers and nullahs across the State. The mafia and encroachers are dominating the State and those who raise their voice against this crime are attacked.
The BJP members further alleged that the execution of developmental works has come to a standstill. Citing the example of the Balliwala Chowk flyover work, they questioned why work was started on a double land flyover when a four-lane flyover was to be constructed here. The citizens are facing difficulties in procuring Aadhaar cards, ration cards and lPG connections. The quality of embankments constructed along the rivers in the State capital Dehradun is also questionable, they pointed out.
