In appreciation of his services for promotion of Sri lankan languages, the BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Rajya Sabha Tarun Vijay was felicitated in Colombo on Tuesday. He was bestowed with Tamizh Sahithya Vizha Virudhu award by Sri lanka’s central province’s Environment &Agricultural Minister Thiru M Rameshwaran.
The Minister appreciated his efforts on working relentlessly for the cause of Tamil and Thirukkural in spite of him hailing from north India.
Vijay said he always championed Thirukkural and Buddhism to the youths. He announced that 133 Thirukkural students selected via competition held at Madurai on November 1 will be sent to Indian Parliament to be felicitated by HRD Minister Smriti Irani.
The ceremony was attended by many educationists and ministers along with vice-chancellor Prof laxman Dissanayeke, faculty members and active associates of Columbo University.
“This has strengthened my commitment to Thirukkural all the more. Thiruvalluvar inspires us all to seek justice and equality and has given strength to Tamils and to humanity as a whole. It is the bridge that binds both the people and societies into a bond of friendship,” exclaimed an overwhelmed Vijay after being presented with the award.
