BJP MlAs meet Speaker over Govt bid to push through bills

Published on:

A delegation of BJP MlAs led by leader of Opposition Ajay Bhatt met Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal on Thursday. BJP alleged that during Business Advisory committee (BAC) meeting, the treasury bench had promised that they would present a copy of Ordinance in the House on the first day of the session as per the Assembly proceeding under section 122(1), but they did not do so.

Bhatt alleged that now State Government is planning to present the Ordinance and get it passed on the same day. As per the section 125 and 130, the State Government can seek House permission if they have tabled the Ordinance two days ahead in the House.

Now treasury bench is planning to present all three bills including lokayukta Bill, Right to Service (amendment) bill and land Revenue Act 1950 (amendment) Bill-2014 and four ordinances including Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna affiliated Medical Education University Ordinance-2013, Uttarakhand Ayurvedic university-2013, Uttarakhand Right to information-2013 rules and Uttarakhand Zamindari abolition and land management (amendment) ordinance 2014 on January 20.

Due to this, members will not be able to go through the Bill and Ordinance minutely and Government will get it passed hurriedly. By doing the this, State Government is strangulating democracy; so they appealed to the Speaker to instruct the Government to increase the tenure of special session of Vidhan Sabha. The team consisted of Banshidhar Bhagar, Surendra Singh Jeena, Dan Singh Bhandari, Puran Singh Fartyal, Ganesh Joshi and Vijaya Berthwal.
