Taking a note of The Pioneer report dated March 13 of the saints Sapt Sarovar area threatening to commit mass suicides later this week with the level of Ganga receding fast at the ghats they bathe in, BJP MlA Madan Kaushik demanded the State Government to spell out its stance during Zero Hour on Monday.
He said many of the saints are over 100 years old and they do not know swimming. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Indira Hridayesh said she had no such information. “We would collect information,” she said.
The statement was strongly objected to by the Opposition. They demanded the Speaker to give his ruling. The Speaker refused to act as prompted by the Opposition.
Kaushik alleged that if the elderly saints would act as they had threatened the CM and the Government would be held responsible. He mentioned that CM had assured to have the water level raised in next 24 hours a few days ago. Instead of fulfilling the CM’s commitment, DM is appealing to the saints not to commit mass suicide, the BJP MlA said.
The State Government is apathetic even after a seer of Juna Akhara had given ultimatum fixing three days for action, he said.
