The Bharatiya Janata Party national vice president and State in-charge Shyam Jaju said that about four lakh people have become members of the party so far since the BJP membership campaign was stated in Uttarakhand.
He said that the party is receiving unprecedented support from various sections of society. Considering this, its target of making 10 lakh members should be achieved by August 11.
After completion of the membership campaign, the party’s organisational elections will be held in the state, he said.
Addressing media persons at the BJP State office here on Sunday after reviewing the membership campaign, Jaju said that the party has 15 lakh members in the state. The party’s membership campaign was started on July 6 with a target of making 10 lakh new members.
Those interested in joining the party can give a missed call or fill up a form to become members of the BJP, he said. Jaju further informed that earlier Rs five fee used to be taken from those becoming members of the party but now even this has been waived off and one can become a party member for free.
Stating that the membership campaign had achieved results that were better than expected, he said that the public response was so unprecedented that even those who have traditionally remained distant from the BJP are now joining the party. After completion of the campaign, the state’s organisational elections will be held, he said.
