BJP lodges plaint, seeks status of Basanti Devi

BJP national vice president Uma Bharti alleged that incumbent Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s wife Basanti Devi is missing as per the election commission voters’ list; so the BJP women's wing has lodged a complaint with Uttarakhand DGP to disclose the status of Basanti Devi in next 48 hours otherwise their women wing would organise statewide agitation on it.

She further said that Haridwar Congress candidate Renuka Rawat procured new voter card before surrendering her old one. By doing this she has violated the election commission of India norms to procure EPIC.

She alleged that incumbent CM Harish Rawat has managed to confine Basanti Devi somewhere because a petition before election commission using form 7, which deals with missing/death/migrated to abroad, by a person named Sanjay Rawat. She demanded Uttarakhand DGP BS Sidhu to present her (Basanti Devi) in public physically in next 48 hours; otherwise BJP would organise statewide agitation against the state. She further said that if Basanti says in public that she does not have any problem with her husband and CM Rawat, then BJP would not raise this issue any more.

She further alleged that Renuka Rawat, the present wife of CM Rawat, has misused the Chief Minister’s office and managed to delete her own name by using form 7 of ECI in April 8 and before that she filed a petition before ECI to delete her name in Dehradun by using Form 6 of ECI on March 20. It means she registered in voter list of two lok Sabha constituencies for more than a fortnight. From this perspective CM Rawat should resign from his office on moral grounds.

It would be pertinent to mention here that form 6 is being used by first time voter but Renuka Rawat used form 6 to include her name in Dehradun voter list. She deleted her name from Almora district voters list by using form 7, which is used if a person dies or is missing or migrated abroad, but she used the form to delete her name. Officially she should have used form 8 to delete her name and register her name in new place.

Reacting to BJP national vice president Uma Bharti’s allegation, Congress spokesperson Rajiv Jain said that BJP is getting tough fight from incumbent Chief Minister Harish Rawat; which is why they made absurd allegations. “By giving such shallow statement, BJP has ascertained our claim that Congress is in win-win situation.”
