BJP leaders meet Guv over Rawat office-of-profit row

Even though Congress-led State Government has come forward to save the post of State Agriculture Minister Harak Singh Rawat, the tussle between Opposition and ruling party continued on Wednesday as a delegation headed by the leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Dr Ajay Bhatt met Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi in Dehradun on Wednesday.

A delegation headed by the leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Dr Ajay Bhatt including former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and BJP State Chief Tirath Singh Rawat met Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi and demanded from him to issue order to quash the Vidhan Sabha membership of Harak Singh Rawat.

The memorandum submitted to Governor clearly highlighted that the appointment of State Agriculture Minister Rawat on the post of Uttarakhand Seed and Tarai Development Corporation (USTDC) Chairman is completely unlawful as Rawat is holding the post of profit despite the fact that he is not withdrawing the salary.

The delegation also cleared that the BJP will knock at the door of court to seek justice and further hoped that court will give its verdict in the favour of the party as the appointment is completely against the rules and regulations of the Company Act.

Highlighting that an MlA and minister could not occupy offices of profit, the BJP leader termed Rawat's appointment as the Chairman of USTDC and Uttarakhand Ex Servicemen Welfare Corporation as "unconstitutional". The delegation urged Governor to take cognizance of Section 2 of Article 191 of the Constitution and ensure that Rawat is dismissed as an MlA from the assembly. The Governor also assured BJP leaders of examining the issues raised and to take whatever action is required in a non-partisan manner.

It is to be noted that the delegation had also met Dr Qureshi with the same issue in early April.Tehri MP Rajyalaxmi Shah, Rajkumar Thukral, Balraj Passi, Kusum Kandwal, Shyamveer Saini and many more were present.
