'BJP leaders have threatened to oust non-BJP State Govts'

The Congress in Uttarakhand has alleged that the BJP has threatened to oust the Congress-led State Government if the BJP comes to power at the Centre following the lok Sabha elections 2014.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, the Congress State spokesman, Surendra Kumar Agarwal, said that the BJP had already conceded its defeat in the Parliamentary elections and was now resorting to complaining to the Election Commission regularly and threatening non-BJP State Governments in the nation.

According to Agarwal, the BJP is not contesting the parliamentary polls to win. “They are complaining to the election commission almost every other day and their prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has already called for a Congress-free India.

The BJP leaders have been threatening non-BJP State Governments that they will oust these State governments from office if Modi becomes the PM. Even in Uttarakhand, a BJP leader on a responsible post has threatened to get our government ousted if the BJP comes to power in the Centre. They are doing this to scare the people into voting for them,” he alleged.

Replying to a question about the position of the Congress in Uttarakhand, the party spokesman averred that there is a wave in favour of the Congress in the State. “There is a wave in favour of the development facilitated by the Congress-led State Government. Chief minister Harish Rawat has issued 2,200 Government orders for facilitating various works since assuming the post earlier this year. We trust the capability of the people to assess our work and make a decision based on their judgement,” said Agarwal.

He further rejected the allegation of former chief minister and BJP candidate from Haridwar Parliamentary constituency, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ about Harish Rawat being responsible for the alleged Kumbh Mela scam during Nishank’s tenure as CM.

Responding to Rawat’s statement about the people seeking an answer for the Kumbh Mela scam allegedly orchestrated by Nishank, the BJP candidate had blamed Rawat on the grounds that he  was then the Haridwar MP and later a union minister, Agarwal said,

“It is known to all that the Government headed by Nishank was mired in corruption. We did not accuse him of corruption but it was his own party’s leader and former CM BC Khanduri who had raised questions on the Kumbh Mela spending. Nishank was replaced by Khanduri on the post of CM due to corruption charges, so he should not accuse us of corruption,” he said.
