BJP holds protest rally against Tharoor

On the issue of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor comparing JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar, facing sedition charges, with Bhagat Singh at JNU campus, scores of BJP Mahanagar members carried out rally called Aakrosh Rally from Mahanagar office to Collectorate and submitted a memorandum addressing the President of India  through administrative officer on Friday. In the memorandum, they demanded action against Tharoor.

BJP supporters and workers led by Mahanagar president Umesh Aggarwal assembled at Mahanagar office and rallied till Collectorate while raising anti-Congress slogans. On the occasion, BJP leaders expressed their outrage over Tharoor’s statement during his over 40-minute long speech at JNU campus on March 20 wherein he (Tharoor) had said, “Bhagat Singh was a young man in his 20s with Marxist beliefs who had great passion for motherland. Kanhaiya has same qualities in common.”

The BJP leaders had taken strong exception to Tharoor’s comment saying it was an insult to the “great freedom fighter” as well as all patriots of the country.

“Bhagat Singh went to the gallows chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ while fighting for the country’s independence. Comparing Kanhaiya Kumar with Bhagat Singh is an insult to the freedom fighter and all the patriots, one of the BJP leaders said.
