BJP Govt failed to fulfil majority of its promises: Cong

Seeking facts and figures about the Government’s works and comparing these with the written assurances of the Bharatiya Janata Party during the elections, one will find that the BJP Government at the Centre has failed to fulfil majority of its promises to the public. Stating this, the Congress national spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi opined that the Union Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed to perform well during its three years in office so far.

Addressing the media at the Congress Bhavan, Singhvi said that the BJP had promised to construct two crore homes by 2022. However, considering that only one lakh homes have been constructed yet, it will take centuries to construct the target number of homes. He said, “Similarly, in the Namami Gange programme for which `20,000 crore has been allocated, only seven per cent of the funds have been used in the three years since the BJP formed Government at the Centre. In the matter of lokpal, too the BJP Government has done nothing since forming Government. Modi was the Gujarat Chief Minister from 2002 to 2013 and during that time he did not facilitate the appointment of a lokayukta in that State. He is now implementing the Gujarat model at the Centre. The BJP Government talked of eradicating corruption but a major scam like the Vyapam scam is being ignored. This multi-state scam covered Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and part of Rajasthan and more than 50 persons connected to it have died under mysterious circumstances so far. The scam was given to the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe last year but the CBI too is mostly remaining silent on this issue.

In the meanwhile, our Prime Minister is maintaining what I call strategic silence at a time when so many questions remain unanswered,” said the Congress national spokesman.

He went on to opine that the situation in Jammu & Kashmir at present was at its worst in about seven decades. He said that if one were to seek figures and facts and compare the same with the written promises of the BJP during the elections, one would find that the BJP Government at the centre has failed to deliver on most of its promises during the three years it has been in office. He acknowledged that the Congress had suffered unprecedented defeat in the elections but added that the Congress-led United Progressive Allilance Government had completed a term of 10 years in office at the centre, during which period the Congress had also won about a dozen provincial elections.

The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat and other party leaders were also among those present in the Press conference.
