BJP for probe into Govt 'failure' to deal with disaster aftermath

Senior BJP leader and MP (RS) Bhagat Singh Koshiyari has demanded a probe into the   alleged ‘failure’ of the State Government in dealing with the natural disaster that caused a huge loss of life and property in Uttarakhand this rainy season, by a sitting Supreme Court Judge.

A the same time, the senior BJP leader has also demanded that a case must be registered against the present State Government, holding it responsible for the huge loss of life post natural disaster.

“We demand that a commission must be set up under the chairmanship of the sitting Supreme Court Judge to probe the failure of this  State Government in handling the natural disaster,” said Koshiyari, during his Kumaon visit here on Monday.

“Besides, we also demand that a case must be registered against this  State Government for the loss of life in the post natural disaster in different parts of the Uttarakhand,” the senior BJP leader further said.

Recovery of bodies from Kedarnath and other natural disaster hit areas only confirm our apprehensions that  a majority of the people lost their lives post natural calamity for want of necessary relief. The matter of concern is that the present State Government did nothing to reach out to the victims struck in the affected areas of the Himalayan region like Kedarnath, Rambara to name a few.

“That is why our concern is that, had the Government been a bit serious, the situation could have been handled better and more lives could have been saved. But this State Government woke up after many days of the calamity when many people stranded in the heights of the Himalayan region had lost their battle against the nature’s fury,” Koshiyari expressed his concern.

He demanded a case must be registered against the State Government and those officials concerned who were responsible for the loss of so many lives.

In the meanwhile, Koshiyar also came down heavily on the Congress led State Government for privatisation of the collection of the riverbed materials from different rivers of the hill State.

This privatisation of the collection of the river will lead to ‘mafiya raj’ in the State and the BJP would strongly oppose it, he asserted.
