MlA and Former State BJP president Bishan Singh Chufal said that the case of seven- year- old girl being brutally raped and murdered in Haldwani is an example of how the State’s law and order has deteriorated under the present Congress regime. Instead of acknowledging their failure they had innocent media persons, who were on professional assignment to cover the Chief Minister’s Haldwani visit, mercilessly beaten.
He further alleged that the State Government is busy in promoting mining and liquor trade. “The minor went missing on November 20, but police recovered her body five days later on November 25 from a place which is just 500 meters away from the venue from where the she went missing. They reached the spot after five days of the incident. When we raked the issue up in the Assembly during the Winter Session, police sat up and arrested the accused from Punjab. Had we not raised the issue, nothing perhaps would have happened”, he said.
Recently, ASP Prahlad Narayan Meena managed to save his life from mining mafia who fired a shot at him at Roorkee, Haridwar because he dared to challenge them. The question of safety remains and this incident has maligned the image and also made severe dent into State tourism.
