Santosh Kashyap, who is chairperson of State OBC welfare council and was senior Congress leader, joined  the BJP. Kashyap alleged that as the constituency has strong presence of OBC so she was demanding OBC representation from there but CM Harish Rawat had "deceived us". She pledged that she would teach lesson to CM because we would vote against him. "We have been working on single agenda to defeat CM otherwise we would not get representation from here," she said.

She joined BJP along with former Congress state general secretary Bhagat Ram Kothari, Congress state OBC cell president Chandrashekhar Kashyap and PCC incumbent secretary Haji Dilshad Ahmed Quraishi.

Talking to the media, Bahuguna said that now Congress game is over and now they will have to pay its price of what they sowed during last three years.
