BJP demands early approval for flyover

BJP members protested at the Dehradun district Collectorate demanding that the work on construction of flyovers approved earlier by the Central Government. In the memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, the protesting BJP members pointed out that on March 23, 2013, after approval of the Planning Commission, the proposal for construction of five flyovers in Dehradun at a cost of Rs 180 crore had been given the green signal.

The memorandum states, “Without inviting any tenders for these tasks, the work of constructing the five flyovers was handed over to Engineering Projects India limited (EPIl). This project was slated to be completed in two years but so far work has been started on only three of the five works at Balliwala Chowk, Ballupur and near the ISBT. Even these three tasks have not been completed within the deadline. locals and road users are facing major inconvenience due to the slow pace of work at these three sites. The BJP has raised this issue many times but the State Government has so far failed to ensure that the construction is completed without further delay.” The protesters further pointed out that the construction of the remaining two projects-proposed flyover at Jogiwala Chowk and the Bhandaribagh-Rest Camp railway line flyover/underbridge projects have been put on the backburner by the State.  They said that the State Government had released a sum of Rs nine crore to EPIl for construction of the Bhandaribagh-Rest Camp project but far from starting work on this project, even the foundation stone unveiled in 2013 has been removed.
