A BJP delegation led by BJP State party general secretary Naresh Bansal met DGP MA Ganapathy on Wednesday and demanded action against former MlA and Forest Development Corporation chairman Harish Dhami- who is enjoying a Ministerial status -and other Congress leaders who had allegedly beaten BJP leaders and members in the presence of heavy police forces in Munsiyari, Dharchula (Pithoragarh). The incident happened on December 3 when the BJP members led by Jagat Singh Martolia was about to serve a memorandum to the CM Harish Rawat on the alleged misappropriation of funds when the latter was visiting Pithoragarh. The BJP had later staged a dharna at Sastri Chowk against the incident. The BJP delegation that met the State police chief alleged that Martolia was severely beaten up following which he was referred to a Delhi -based hospital where he is being still treated.
Bansal said that it was sad that his party leaders and activists had received the blows from the Congress leaders and goons backed by them in the presence of the senior cops. He told the DGP that unless the criminals involved in such crimes are duly punished they would be emboldened to indulge in such crimes to intimidate the Opposition in the coming days.
He expressed surprise that police were yet to take action against the accused despite days having passed since it occurred.
He also mentioned an earlier incident in Ranikhet where the state BJP president Ajay Bhatt was prevented from completing the review meeting he was presiding over with some Congress activists unleashing disorder. No action had been taken even regarding this case, he complained. He warned that his party would be forced to go for a full-blown agitation unless police take required action. BJP leaders Jyoti Prasad Gairola, Khajan Das and Sunil Uniyal were among others who met the DGP along Bansal.
